74HC74 Logic Divide by 2 Circuit
This logic divide by 2 circuit allows a signal to be divided by 2. If you get 1000 pulses without the circuit inline, you get 500 with the circuit inline.
This is a great hardware solution for encoders that are placed behind the gearing in a motor and allows the application to then use 1/2 the resolution. This is a hardware solution that requires no programming to use. It works with all controllers including Arduino and many others. I use this with the Dimension Engineering Kangaroo controller which can handle a maximum count of 80K clicks per revolution. When using in differential mode, this limits the motor to a maximum of 40K clicks per rotation. The motors that I use have 64K clicks per rotation. By placing this device inline, I am able to reduce this to 32K per motor which allows me to utilize the Kangaroo controller with the motors I use.
If you had a need to divide the signal by 4 or more, you can place multiple of these circuits in line. Each will divide a signal by 2. Also, if you only needed to divide one signal by 4, you could take the output from A and patch it into the input from B. The output from B will be 1/4 the input into A.
